The server is actually quite populated atm with the Legacy players, therefore it is best to login right when Phase 4 starts.  It would also be better to create a character through the benchmark first so that it can be imported into the game, saving about 10 minutes of customisation.

As for the country, it depends on where you bought the game from, although most of us are using EU accounts.

I've got 1.0 CE, but did not complete legacy campaign... does that mean i got no early access? 

Early Access should probably be only for pre-orders of ARR.
v1.0 CE will get the items of the ARR CE + 14 days game time.

There are a few with v1.0 characters, but there is also a substantial amount of new players, and yes, newbies are welcomed to join in.

Oh this. There's a translation dictionary or something in-game. And also, I can read Hiragana, Katakana, and a few commonly used Kanji, but well, they usually use hira since most of the things they say are "Thank you", "See you next time", "Congratulations", all those simple stuff

The only thing I know is that Early Access Codes are emailed to you, however, you have to make sure that you have pre-ordered the right copy, not the retail copy. Retail copies do not have Early Access. Though I guess they would state whether Early Access would be included in the product description or something.

 Registration would probably still be available, however the chances of getting selected is extremely low with the large number of people wanting to get into the test. Since CBT has just started/has not started, OBT probably won't be soon.

I'd assume then that if I make a purchase from Amazon for the PS3 NA version (hardcopy), the pre order coode would allow me to download/play the game without having to use the cd yes?

@Mion: If I already have a character in my NA SE account, by creating a EU account I woud lose my NA character right?

Btw my friends who bought from GMG have found out that the key are actually EU keys
So in accordance with my experience with FFXIV ver 1.0 you need a EU account to input this key when SE send it to you guys.

Do take note of this and create a EU account and apply for open beta or else you'll be screwed
