Elemental Imbue System Overview

As you progress through the game, you can unlock an additional function for your character — Elemental Imbue. This system allows you to enhance your weapon with elemental powers to deal specific types of continuous or situational damage.

Basic Elements

There are three elemental types you can imbue your weapon with:

1. Fire

  • Effect: Inflicts burn damage that continuously harms enemies after being hit.
  • Additional Trigger: Successful parries have a chance to inflict burn damage as well.
  • Best Used Against: Furry enemies such as bears or beasts.

How to Obtain Fire Essence:

  • Collect from fire pots.
  • Gather from certain plants that yield fire essence when harvested.

2. Water

  • Effect: Highly effective against enemies with shields.
  • Best Used Against: Shielded enemies and defensive-type foes.

How to Obtain Water Essence:

  • Collect from plants.
  • Harvest from rivers or creeks in the first zone/map.

3. Poison

  • Effect: Inflicts poison damage over time.
  • Damage Profile: Lower continuous damage, but significantly higher impact on enemy energy levels.

How to Obtain Poison Essence:

  • Gather from mushrooms and certain plants.
  • Obtain from poisonous enemies after defeating them.

⚔️ Note:
You can only imbue one element at a time, and it cannot be switched during battle.

Combat Mechanics

Enemies, like the player, have two bars:

  • Health Bar – standard HP.
  • Energy Bar – when depleted, enemies become vulnerable.

Once the energy bar is empty:

  • Perform an Execution Move by pressing F to deal massive damage.

For maximum efficiency:

  • Attack with any skills, heavy, or light attacks while the enemy is immobilized.
  • Execute just before the execution icon's timer expires to inflict maximum damage.

How to Use Elemental Imbue

Equip the desired elemental essence.

Cycle between essences and healing pots by holding Alt and using Left/Right Click.

Press "X" to imbue your weapon manually.

💡 Tip:
Manual imbuing can be cumbersome during combat. To streamline this, enable Auto Imbue in the settings menu. Once activated, your weapon will automatically imbue at the start of a battle. This feature consumes essence quickly, so maintaining a large supply of elemental essence is crucial.

Advanced Elemental Imbue

The latest patch introduces Advanced Elemental Imbue, which combine multiple elements for enhanced effects.

To unlock this feature:

Option 1: Join the Crafter Sect to learn the crafting technique.
Option 2: Defeat a player from the Crafter Sect in multiplayer mode — they will auto-craft the advanced imbue for you.

Advanced Element Combinations

Fire Base + Poison → (2 Fire + 1 Poison Essence)

Fire Base + Water

🔥 Note:
Each combination produces different effects depending on the base element used. After unlocking, visit the Crafting Station to create the Advanced Elemental Essence, then equip it for battle use.

Getting Started: Weapon Skills and Progression

Default Weapon Styles

At the start of the game, your character will have access to two default weapon skill sets:
  • Nameless Sword Style
  • Nameless Spear Style

These serve as your foundational combat techniques as you begin your journey.

Unlocking New Weapon Skills

As you progress through the main storyline, an NPC will offer you three additional weapon skills free of charge.

💡 Recommendation:
Choose the Fan Skill early on — it is the first weapon skill that allows self-healing, providing excellent survivability in early encounters.

Beyond the initial set, additional weapon skills can be discovered and learned through exploration:

  • Explore the world map to obtain keys that unlock hidden caverns.
  • Within these caverns, you must sneak past NPC guards to access secret training scrolls.
  • Once obtained, you can learn and equip these weapon skills freely as you progress.

Sects and Guilds

Sects

Sects operate as organized factions with their own rules, progression systems, and weekly tasks to improve your standing.

Examples of sect activities include:

  • Healing other players.
  • Hunting and defeating rival players.

Each sect's objectives and philosophy differ, encouraging players to choose one that aligns with their preferred playstyle.

Guilds

Guilds, while similar in structure, have distinct manifestos and group goals. Generally, guilds fall under three main categories:

  • PvP-Oriented Guilds – Focused on large-scale guild wars and combat dominance.
  • Exploration Guilds – Dedicated to discovering hidden areas, treasures, and lore.
  • Casual Guilds – Relaxed and social groups emphasizing cooperation and enjoyment over competition.

Advanced Martial Skills

Along your journey, you can acquire powerful martial arts techniques such as:

  • Toad Style
  • Buddha Palm

These skills consume energy, which can be replenished by:

  • Landing weapon hits during combat.
  • Defeating wild animals while exploring the open world.

Wildlife and Material Gathering

All animals in the world can be hunted for crafting materials — with one important exception:

Do not attack the Goose.
The Goose is sacred. It does not forgive.

Fall Damage and Equipment Durability

Fall Damage

  • Jumping or falling from elevated areas can cause your character to sustain injuries.
  • The higher the fall, the greater the damage.
  • Falling from extreme heights will result in instant death.

Death Penalty

When you die, the durability of your equipped gear will decrease as a penalty. Regular maintenance is crucial to keep your equipment in optimal condition.

Repair Materials

To repair your equipment, ensure you consistently harvest and stock up on key materials such as:

  • Bear Skin – used for crafting and repairing armor.
  • Copper – used for weapon and equipment repairs.

⚙️ Tip:
Keep a reserve of these materials before venturing into dangerous areas or high-altitude zones.

Game Modes Overview

Single-Player World Mode

  • Play entirely offline and experience the story at your own pace.
  • All quests and storylines can be fully completed in single-player mode.
  • Ideal for players who prefer a solo, immersive experience.
  • NPCs, quests, and world events function independently of the online system.

Multiplayer World Mode

  • Switching to multiplayer mode connects you to a shared world with other players in the same area.
  • Team up to complete quests, explore, or engage in cooperative challenges.
  • You can switch between single-player and multiplayer modes at any time via the main menu.
  • Multiplayer interaction is optional and not required to progress through the story.

💡 Tip:
Think of Where Winds Meet's multiplayer system as an expanded version of Diablo's online mode — fully playable solo, with the option to join others when you choose.

PvP and Player Interaction

Duels and Organized PvP

In multiplayer mode, you can participate in several PvP formats:

  • Duels – Invite other players to 1v1 combat.
  • Guild Wars – Battles between guilds.
  • PvP Arenas and Battlegrounds – Structured environments for competitive combat.
  • Battle Royale Mode – A free-for-all event similar to PUBG, where players fight until one remains.

Bounty System and Open-World PvP

Open-world, non-consensual PvP is not allowed under normal circumstances.

The only exception is the Bounty System:

  • Players who commit multiple crimes or kill NPCs may receive a bounty.
  • If your bounty becomes too high, NPC constables will be unable to contain you.
  • At that point, other players are allowed to invade your world and hunt you down for rewards.
  • Once you are defeated, your bounty is cleared, and you will no longer be targetable until another bounty is placed.

⚠️ Note:
There is no open-world ganking like in World of Warcraft's Horde vs. Alliance system. Players cannot attack others at will — only bounty targets are vulnerable to open-world PvP.

NPC Interaction and Consequences

  • Attacking NPCs by mistake is not permanent unless you continue attacking until they die.
  • Do not attack key storyline NPCs.
  • Eliminating important NPCs may lead to severe in-game consequences.
  • A famous player in China once killed a major storyline NPC and received a 30-year real-time jail sentence in-game.

🕊 Rule of Thumb:
Always verify before engaging — once an NPC dies, the storyline impact is irreversible.

Important Summary

Where Winds Meet is not an MMORPG. It is a single-player game with optional online co-op features. You can freely switch between offline and online modes at any time. Online play enhances the experience with multiplayer events, but it is not required to enjoy or complete the game. The world of Where Winds Meet features numerous mini-games and a diverse economy system with multiple in-game currencies used across different shops.

Skill Issue

Cheat Mode (a.k.a. The "Skill Issue" Safety Net)

Repeatedly getting defeated by the same boss? No worries — Where Winds Meet understands that sometimes... it's not about skill, it's about bad hitboxes and emotional damage.

If you lose to a boss too many times, the game will gently ask:

"Would you like to turn on Cheat Mode to help you win?"

It's the game's polite way of saying:

💀 "Skill issue detected."

⚔️ Tip:
You can always say "no" and keep fighting to prove your honor or you can say "yes" — because inner peace is more important than another 40-minute boss run.

Combat Controls and Movement System

Mastering combat in Where Winds Meet requires understanding both offensive and defensive mechanics, as well as how to use your Qing Gong (轻功)

Basic Combat Controls

1. Light Attack
2. Strong Attack (Hold for charged attack)
3. Block
4. Parry (Works only against normal and red aura attacks)
5. Jump
6. Dash (Use to dodge gold/yellow aura attacks from bosses)
7. Skill Attack (Q) Has a cooldown timer.
8. Special Skill Attack (~) Has a cooldown timer.

Parry and Dodge System

  • Red Aura Attacks: Can be parried if your timing is perfect.
  • Gold/Yellow Aura Attacks: Cannot be parried — these must be dodged or avoided using your dash or lightness skill.

Qing Gong (轻功)

One of the game's most iconic features is 轻功, allowing your character to soar through the skies, glide across rivers, and leap between mountains with cinematic grace.

There are four styles of 轻功 available. You will eventually unlock all styles as you progress through the story. However, each new zone or map requires exploration progression to Stage 4 before you can use 轻功. Upon reaching Stage 4, you'll receive a 轻功 Token, which activates your flying ability for that region. Certain restricted areas do not permit 轻功 use, regardless of your progression.
